I am fully aware of the broad implications involved if the United States extends assistance to Greece and Turkey, and I shall discuss these implications with you at this time.
One of the primary objectives of the foreign policy of the United States is the creation of conditions in which we and other nations will be able to work out a way of life free from coercion.
This was a fundamental issue in the war with Germany and Japan.
Our victory was won over countries which sought to impose their will, and their way of life, upon other nations.
To ensure the peaceful development of nations, free from coercion, the United States has taken a leading part in establishing the United Nations.

The three tasks may be different in different versions, but the main plot is always the same, with the prince claiming the princess's hand triumphantly. And the ending is always the same, finishing with the line "And they live happily every after." Why aren't we tired of something so fanciful, so unrealistic, and, I would say, so unimaginative? How can a story like that endure generations of repetition`? Because, I think, it is a typical success story. It is highly philosophical and symbolic. By implication, we see a 4-step definition of success: 1 ) a goal to be set. as represented by the beautiful princess; 2 ) challenges to be met, as represented by the three tasks; 3 ) the process of surmounting difficulties, as represented by the ordeals the youth goes through; and 4 ) the reward of success, as represented by the happy marriage. The story not only caters to everyone's inward yearning for success, but also emphasizes the inseparability of the process and the result. The reward of success will be much amplified if the path leading towards it is treacherous, and vice versa.
If a person inherits his father's millions and leads an easy life, he is not a successful person even in material terms, because there are no difficulties involved in his achieving affluence. The term "success", to be sure. will not sit still for easy definition. But as I understand it, the true meaning of success entails a combination of both the process and the satisfactory result of an endeavor. To clarify my view, let me give another analogy. If we changed the rules of football, greatly enlarged the goal and sent away David Seaman or any other goal keeper, so that another David, namely David Beckham, could score easily, then scoring would not give him the thrill of accomplishment and the joy that it brings. If we further changed the rules by not allowing Arsenal's defenders to defend, so that Beckham needed only to lift a finger, actually a toe, to score, then there would be no game at all, because the meaning of winning would have disappeared. In accepting the challenge, in surmounting the difficulties and in enduring the hardship, success acquires its value. The sense of attainment varies in proportion to the degree of difficulties on overcomes.
The concept of success is not constant but relative because the nature of difficulty is also relative. Something you do effortlessly might pose a great difficulty for a handicapped person. In acquiring the ability to do the same as you can, he or she achieve success.
That's why we greatly admire Stephen Hawking, because, though confined to a wheel chair, he has contributed greatly to the field of science.

來到這里我感到非常榮幸。聽到這個(gè)介紹，我有點(diǎn)疑惑這講的到底是不是最權(quán)威，最具影響力的人物。首先，請(qǐng)?jiān)试S我介紹一下自己。我是個(gè)純正的中國人。在我小時(shí)，曾有許多美國游客來到我的家鄉(xiāng)杭州旅游，從他們那兒我自學(xué)到了英語。20世紀(jì)70年代早期，許多外國游客來中國游覽，所以每天早晨我都早起，為他們做了9年的導(dǎo)游。其中3位游客，他們教我英語，我?guī)麄兯奶幱瓮�。我學(xué)到了英語，同時(shí)也學(xué)到了文化。我學(xué)到了該如何從不同的角度思考，因?yàn)閺乃麄兡抢铽@知的都與我小時(shí)在學(xué)校里學(xué)到的截然不同。父親和老師告訴我中國是世界上最富裕的國家，我們將解放全人類，就像今天的朝鮮一樣。后來我發(fā)現(xiàn)其實(shí)不然。因此，從那時(shí)開始我與大多中國人便有所不同了。人們都說：“杰克，你的思維方式都不像是個(gè)中國人了。”不過，美國人都認(rèn)為我是個(gè)地道的中國人。中國人覺得我像個(gè)美國人是因?yàn)槲伊私饷绹奈幕�。我從未在美國接受過任何訓(xùn)練，但是我學(xué)到了很多，互聯(lián)網(wǎng)的概念就是來自于美國。
首先，請(qǐng)讓我簡(jiǎn)單介紹一下阿里巴巴。阿里巴巴創(chuàng)立于1999年，當(dāng)時(shí)我們共有18個(gè)成員。我們堅(jiān)信互聯(lián)網(wǎng)將會(huì)改變中國，發(fā)展騰飛。但是沒人相信我們。他們都說：“中國的審查制度如此嚴(yán)密，你如何將互聯(lián)網(wǎng)引入中國？”而我們的公司沒理由生存下來。然而今天，人們都說：“杰克，你真有遠(yuǎn)見，竟然在網(wǎng)來進(jìn)行電子商務(wù)交易�！蔽业幕卮鹗牵何覀兙拖袷敲と嗣�。偶然間，我們集中起來，事情就這樣發(fā)生了；如今我們的'員工已從18人增加為20x0多人，也已從一個(gè)公司成長(zhǎng)為5個(gè)公司了。
第一個(gè)叫做阿里巴巴公司，主要集中在中小型企業(yè)上。在中國已有約3700萬至3800萬的注冊(cè)中小型公司在使用我們的服務(wù)，在海外有1200多萬家，這為他們提供了便利。我們的公司經(jīng)營模式非常簡(jiǎn)單。其一是中國的國內(nèi)貿(mào)易，你可以通過網(wǎng)絡(luò)買賣任何東西，就像易趣網(wǎng)，類似一個(gè)市常不過，易趣網(wǎng)是顧客到顧客的電子商務(wù)模式，而我們是企業(yè)到企業(yè)的模式。阿里巴巴的這種模式有兩種方式：一種是國內(nèi)貿(mào)易；另一種是進(jìn)出口貿(mào)易。阿里巴巴是一個(gè)全球采購與買賣市場(chǎng)，它逐漸發(fā)展壯大直到三年前在香港上市。當(dāng)時(shí)我們很幸運(yùn)，因?yàn)槲覀兩鲜械哪且惶�，正是牛市。我們什么都不用做，只見每股價(jià)格從13。5美元漲到40美元，一個(gè)勁兒的向上竄。但是，三個(gè)月后，仍然是什么都沒做，股價(jià)卻從每股40美元跌至3美元。要知道，總是起起伏伏，搖擺不定。如今公司已穩(wěn)定下來，而我們?nèi)栽谧鲭娮由虅?wù)，仍然將重點(diǎn)放在中小型企業(yè)上。除了這一家，其他四家公司都是私營企業(yè)。
另一家我們占全部股份的公司叫做淘寶，在場(chǎng)的大多中國人可能聽過。我們有3億多注冊(cè)用戶。淘寶起初是顧客到顧客的電子商務(wù)模式，不過后來95%是企業(yè)到顧客的模式。六年前，我們開始與易趣競(jìng)爭(zhēng)。易趣非常富有，那是他們的市場(chǎng)價(jià)就有800億美元。他們打入中國市場(chǎng)，揚(yáng)言要與阿里巴巴競(jìng)爭(zhēng)，而我們那時(shí)白手起家，只占2%到3%的市場(chǎng)份額。淘寶集艾默生電氣公司，易趣公司，谷歌與美國Facebook網(wǎng)于一體。它是一個(gè)網(wǎng)上社區(qū)，每天有4300萬的特殊訪客在這里購物。我們每天能完成800萬單交易。去年全中國共有20億個(gè)包裹需要派送，而我們占了11億，大約是市場(chǎng)份額的55%。淘寶發(fā)展的相當(dāng)快。過去七年以來，我們的收益高達(dá)100%，今年我們也會(huì)努力做到這一點(diǎn)。
我們的第三家公司叫做支付寶系統(tǒng)，就像是網(wǎng)上銀行，是個(gè)很愚笨的交易模式。五年前，我發(fā)現(xiàn)網(wǎng)上交易很難實(shí)行，因?yàn)槿藗儫o法相互信任。銀行系統(tǒng)太不可信，金融基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施也不可靠。于是我開始擔(dān)心我該怎么做呢。銀行獲許可以進(jìn)行網(wǎng)上交易，而我們，盡管知道如何去做，卻沒有獲得法律許可。最后，人們說：“杰克，千萬不要涉足金融界，不然你會(huì)坐牢的，金融在中國風(fēng)險(xiǎn)太大�！蔽掖穑骸澳蔷妥伟�，我已決定了�！蔽覀兊墓ぷ骱芡该�，任何情況都清清楚楚，以確保政府滿意，人民舒心。然后，我們與中國七家銀行都有良好的業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系。今天我們支付寶已有4000萬注冊(cè)用戶，成為最大的不使用任何企業(yè)模式的第三方電子支付平臺(tái)。我們只想幫助人們，卻惹惱了銀行，因?yàn)槲覀兎稚⒘巳藗儗?duì)企業(yè)模式的注意力。世界上大銀行的收入，有60%到70%來自于服務(wù)；但在中國，有60%到70%甚至80%來自于借貸。因此，我們就深入到內(nèi)部，集中于服務(wù)業(yè)務(wù)。
第四家公司叫做阿里數(shù)據(jù)計(jì)算處理俱樂部，于兩年前創(chuàng)辦。我們有中小型企業(yè)、淘寶客戶以及支付寶用戶的數(shù)據(jù)資料，這些數(shù)據(jù)影響重大，我們希望與客戶分享，讓他們了解中小型企業(yè)的資料和情況。所以我們有做時(shí)鐘計(jì)算業(yè)務(wù)。

By implication, we see a 4-step definition of success: 1 ) a goal to be set. as represented by the beautiful princess; 2 ) challenges to be met, as represented by the three tasks; 3 ) the process of surmounting difficulties, as represented by the ordeals the youth goes through; and 4 ) the reward of success, as represented by the happy marriage. The story not only caters to everyone's inward yearning for success, but also emphasizes the inseparability of the process and the result. The reward of success will be much amplified if the path leading towards it is treacherous, and vice versa. If a person inherits his father's millions and leads an easy life, he is not a successful person even in material terms, because there are no difficulties involved in his achieving affluence. The term "success", to be sure. will not sit still for easy definition. But as I understand it, the true meaning of success entails a combination of both the process and the satisfactory result of an endeavor. To clarify my view, let me give another analogy. If we changed the rules of football, greatly enlarged the goal and sent away David Seaman or any other goal keeper, so that another David, namely David Beckham, could score easily, then scoring would not give him the thrill of accomplishment and the joy that it brings. If we further changed the rules by not allowing Arsenal's defenders to defend, so that Beckham needed only to lift a finger, actually a toe, to score, then there would be no game at all, because the meaning of winning would have disappeared. In accepting the challenge, in surmounting the difficulties and in enduring the hardship, success acquires its value. The sense of attainment varies in proportion to the degree of difficulties on overcomes. The concept of success is not constant but relative because the nature of difficulty is also relative. Something you do effortlessly might pose a great difficulty for a handicapped person. In acquiring the ability to do the same as you can, he or she achieve success. That's why we greatly admire Stephen Hawking, because, though confined to a wheel chair, he has contributed greatly to the field of science.

In requesting these funds, I have taken into consideration the maximum amount of relief assistance which would be furnished to Greece out of the $350,000,000 which I recently requested that the Congress authorize for the prevention of starvation and suffering in countries devastated by the war.
In addition to funds, I ask the Congress to authorize the detail of American civilian and military personnel to Greece and Turkey, at the request of those countries, to assist in the tasks of reconstruction, and for the purpose of supervising the use of such financial and material assistance as may be furnished.
I recommend that authority also be provided for the instruction and training of selected Greek and Turkish personnel.
Finally, I ask that the Congress provide authority which will permit the speediest and most effective use, in terms of needed commodities, supplies, and equipment, of such funds as may be authorized.
If further funds, or further authority, should be needed for purposes indicated in this message, I shall not hesitate to bring the situation before the Congress.
On this subject the Executive and Legislative branches of the Government must work together.
This is a serious course upon which we embark.
I would not recommend it except that the alternative is much more serious.

很多人都讀過這樣兩句詩：舊時(shí)王謝堂前燕，飛入平常百姓家。王謝是晉代聞名遐邇的兩大家族。謝家以謝安為代表，淝水之戰(zhàn)以少勝多一代良相堪稱高潔典范。王家自然是以王羲之為代表，竹扇題字入木三分一代書圣實(shí)屬名流千古。
這就是我的偶像——王羲之。“清風(fēng)入袖，明月入懷”，人們用絕妙的比喻形容王羲之的書法，他的代表作品是《蘭亭序》，作品的筆法、墨氣、行款、神韻，無不為后人贊嘆景仰。他是一個(gè)沒有真跡存世的大書法家，然而后人對(duì)他的書法作品卻是推崇備至，如癡如醉。他的故事也是家喻戶曉，婦孺皆知。
紹興市西街戒珠寺內(nèi)有個(gè)墨池，傳說就是當(dāng)年王羲之洗筆的地方。 王羲之7歲練習(xí)書法，勤奮好學(xué)。17歲時(shí)他把父親秘藏的前代書法論著偷來閱讀，看熟了就練著寫，他每天坐在池子邊練字，送走黃昏，迎來黎明，寫完了多多少少的墨水，寫爛了多多少少的筆頭，每天練完字就在池水里洗筆，天長(zhǎng)日久竟將一池水都洗成了墨色，這就是人們今天在紹興看到的傳說中的墨池。
王羲之練字專心致志，達(dá)到廢寢忘食的地步。他吃飯走路也在揣摩字的結(jié)構(gòu)，不斷地用手在身上劃字默寫，久而久之，衣襟也磨破了，功夫不負(fù)有心人，有一次，他為人寫一塊匾在木板上寫了幾個(gè)字樣，送去叫人雕刻。刻工發(fā)現(xiàn)字的`墨漬竟?jié)B入木板里面約有三分深。
從幼兒園開始，媽媽就開始讓我練習(xí)書法。在書法學(xué)習(xí)的路上，我哭過也鬧過。每次練習(xí)，一站就是一兩個(gè)鐘頭，不僅十分乏味，還累得腰酸背痛。于是我開始抱怨媽媽，為什么要送我來學(xué)習(xí)書法?后來漸漸明白，學(xué)習(xí)書法真的
能陶冶人的性情，培養(yǎng)人的耐心和修養(yǎng)。我逐漸明白媽媽的良苦用心。當(dāng)然，真正讓我對(duì)書法由逼迫到熱愛的，是來自于那本字帖《蘭亭序》。我驚異于世間竟有這樣出神入化的書法，它完全迷醉了我的雙眼，也在我心里種下了夢(mèng)想的種子。書法是一門藝術(shù)，是一門美的學(xué)問，我也要成為一名書法家。
經(jīng)過好幾年的練習(xí)，我的書法水平也有了很大的提高。在老師的鼓勵(lì)下，我開始嘗試參加各類書法比賽。記得小學(xué)三年級(jí)的時(shí)候，書法老師就帶著我來到北京參加現(xiàn)場(chǎng)書法比賽，我是一個(gè)靦腆的女孩，第一次在外地見到這么多人比賽，心情十分激動(dòng)而緊張。比賽的頭一天晚上，我還在酒店里緊張地練習(xí)，反復(fù)地揣摩，做最后的沖刺。比賽成績(jī)揭曉，我排在第二，與第一名失之交臂。我下定決心，一定要在下一次比賽中取得第一。于是我更加刻苦地練習(xí)。三年后，我又一次來到北京參賽，總結(jié)了上一次失利的經(jīng)驗(yàn)后，我顯得成熟了很多。這一次，我再也沒有給對(duì)手機(jī)會(huì)，以書法第一名的成績(jī)?cè)u(píng)為“全國十佳”。
媽媽說，時(shí)機(jī)成熟的時(shí)候會(huì)給我辦一個(gè)書法作品展。我也很期待有這么一天，把自己的作品供給大家來觀看，這或許是對(duì)我多年努力的最好肯定吧。也許有人會(huì)問，練書法，又不能走捷徑，年復(fù)一年，日復(fù)一日，你不累嗎?我會(huì)說，當(dāng)然!累的時(shí)候，也曾有想放棄的念頭，但想起王羲之，竟把池塘變墨池，清水變成黑水，我的這點(diǎn)辛苦又算得了什么呢?他對(duì)書法已經(jīng)達(dá)到了忘我的境界，而我，還只是一個(gè)在門外觀望的獵奇者。于是，在柔和的燈光下，我又重新振作精神，鋪開宣紙，倒上濃墨，為著自己的夢(mèng)想繼續(xù)前進(jìn)!
感謝我的偶像王羲之，是他帶領(lǐng)我走進(jìn)書法藝術(shù)的殿堂。興致來時(shí)，鋪開宣紙，揮毫潑墨，讓手中的筆自由行走，流轉(zhuǎn)，翻飛，實(shí)在是生活中妙不可言的享受。我的生活或許沒有奇跡，但書法一定會(huì)成為我夢(mèng)想的奇跡。
人生需要偶像，夢(mèng)想需要引領(lǐng)!
